Intro/Bio
My name is Stacey Allin, owner of Gladmist Glass Design. I have been working in the medium of glass since the mid 90's. It continues to fascinate me in its ability to adapt to the creative process. The majority of my time spent with glass was used to bring the beauty of this art to family and friends in the way of gifts. The creation of Gladmist Glass Design as a business is the fulfillment of a dream that has taken shape over the course of a lifetime spent in working for other people.
Although I have spent most of my time with glass in the realm of giftware and window panels, my passion for the art of lampworked glass beads has begun to truly consume me and is where I spend most of my time these days. This process involves melting glass rods in a torch around a steel stick called a mandrel. There all kinds of tools you can use to help move the glass and create shapes, designs and textures. You will also see different metals such as silver, copper and gold foil used in some beads. After the bead has been created in the flame it is then placed into a kiln to control the temperature and cooling process. This is called kiln annealing and makes for a strong and sturdy bead. You should never buy a lampworked glass bead that is not kiln annealed. All of my beads are kiln annealed for strength and stability and are guaranteed against defects or cracking due to workmanship. This does not mean it will not break if you drop it on a concrete or tile floor!
I am happy to do custom work within both the lampworked bead jewelry as well as the giftware and window panels. Please feel free to contact me via e-mail with any questions or requests you may have. Thank you for visiting my website and for your interest in Gladmist Glass Design.
